Hinsdale Chorale is a non-profit and educational organization comprised of an auditioned group of 32-36 singers led by a professional conductor. The group performs two formal shows per year as well as other special appearances in the surrounding communities. Our mission is to enrich the musical culture of Hinsdale, Illinois and its surrounding neighborhoods by promoting the appreciation of choral singing in our community.

Duty Summary: The Guest Conductor will provide artistic leadership and achievement consistent with the musical goals and objectives of Hinsdale Chorale and ensure that the overall choral program provides for ongoing education and improvement in choral skills and techniques. The Guest Conductor will work with the Board of Directors and assist with linking the vision of the chorale with its mission to ensure that the chorale continues its reputation for presenting a diverse and well presented program of choral music to a diverse audience. The Guest Conductor reports to the Board of Directors, abides by the bylaws of Hinsdale Chorale and operates within the budgetary constraints set by the Board.

Specific Duties and Expectations:
Demonstrate highest level of leadership in choral conducting and vocal instruction in a wide variety of musical styles
Ability to inspire and motivate members
Proactively develop and communicate weekly rehearsal schedules indicating which repertoire will be covered during each rehearsal
Develop program themes and estimated budgets for the concert season with Marketing Committee input and Board approval
Write program notes for each concert
Select and evaluate artistic personnel (singers, soloists, instrumentalists) following established procedures
Display collaborative attitude consistently with all singers, staff accompanist, and the Board of Directors
Attend board meetings and appropriate committee meetings and serve as an Ex Officio member of the Board of Directors (no voting capability)
Serve as official spokesperson for the organization from a public relations perspective
Work closely with the Board of Directors in the design and implementation of fundraising activities and collaboratively on other Chorale matters as appropriate
Ability to work with singers of all levels of musical ability
Possess appropriate music degree(s) and professional experience

Schedule: 10-12 rehearsals per program take place on Monday evenings at 7:30-9:30p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hinsdale. Two performances of the holiday concert take place on Thanksgiving weekend and two performances of the spring concert usually take place in late April/early May – locations of performances may vary.
Salary: Commensurate with experience but estimated at $6,000-$8,000 per concert season. No relocation is available.
