Truth and Light

Dual Exhibtion featuring the works of Adam Holzrichter and Nicholas Nadja at the Ars Memoria tattoo and art gallery in Ravenswood, Chicago.

Nadja and Holzrichter bring to life the truth of figuritive expression and the light of painterly form. See the works from two uprising stars in the Chicago art world. The paintings in this show depict the quintessence of tragic emotion as well as rejoice in the celebration of life. The dichotomy is further emphasized by each artist within their aesthetic towards figuritive realism, and fantastical compostions.

Adam Holzrichter :

Adam Holzrichter is a narrative and figurative painter.

While he is a Chicago area native, he spent the bigger part of the last decade surveying American culture by traveling and living across both coasts. Largely this began as an effort to subvert a suburban-midwest-Jehovah's Witness upbringing's influence over his ideas of morality, love, and human behavior.

Adam approaches painting with an eye turned toward the best masterworks of the ages, and another fixed on his personal experiences. He attended the American Academy of Art for fine art painting and illustration. He recently completed traditional apprenticeships with regular Juxtapoz Magazine contributor, David Molesky, and the legendary Norwegian painter, Odd Nerdrum.

Adam paints primarily from life to wind up somewhere between direct representation and fantasy. Themes aim to elicit human emotion from viewers using scenes of intense drama, often based in various myths of the world.

Nicholas Nadja:

Nicholas Nadja is a contemporary artist in Chicago focusing on Realism and Surrealism in painting and printmaking.

Nadja largely relates and identifies with the Surrealists and aims to objectify through a lens of realism and tradional painting practices. The works are revolved around deconstructing truth and reality in a world slightly unhinged and hauntingly beautiful.

After attending the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2012, Nadja left to live in Florence Italy during 2013. Living, painting and working on farms in the Tuscany Hills. Returning to the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design for the following year, he continued his studies of realist and surrealist painting. Then is 2014, Nadja moved to San Francisco and continued his painting studies at the historic San Francisco Art Institute. Afterwards, he transferred to the famous School of the Art Institute of Chicago to finish his BFA degree. Today Nadja still works and exhibits in a studio/gallery in the Zhou B Art Center in Bridgeport, Chicago.

The exhibition Truth and Light will be on display during regular hours at Ars Memoria after openning reception. Artists will be present at openning and closing reception to speak with and meet.
