Now in its second decade of supporting individual dancemakers, the Chicago Dancemakers Forum Lab Artist Awards program makes $15,000 cash grants to Chicago-based choreographers annually. Grants are combined with mentorship throughout the research, development and performance of new work. In addition, CDF produces a variety of public programming including workshops and panels. The Forum is comprised of artists, staff, volunteers, members of the board of directors, consortium and community partners. Internship

Program: Chicago Dancemakers Forum has enjoyed tremendous success since 2003 and now seeks to enhance the organization through an exciting internship program. The 2017-2018CDF Internship Program offers an enriching experience for young professionals, emerging leaders, or students from all disciplines with an expressed interest and commitment to dancemaking across Chicago’s many communities.

2017-2018CDF Interns will be welcomed to participate in a range of events, including:
●Public Programs: panels, workshops, performances and work-in-progress showings●Private Events: donor receptions and artist dinners
●Studio Visits: Current Lab Artists (Victoria Bradford, Brittany Harlin, Daniel BRAVEMONK Haywood, Joshua L. Ishmon, Rika Lin, and Jumaane Taylor)
●Larger Scale Events: Elevate Chicago Dance from October 19-21,2017, Body + Camera Film Festival, Lab Artist Celebration, 15th Anniversary events (in development)

Opportunities to Learn, Gain Experience, and Contribute:
●Graphic Design: implement 2017 rebranding initiative
●Event Management: guest list maintenance, logistical coordination, documentation, archiving, surveying, and followup
●Development: donor acknowledgement process, grant and donor research and prospecting
●Social Media/Marketing: content development, newsletter, management, analysis, drafting press releases, and creating video or photo content
●Website: assist in content management or (re)design, resource sharing, and research of best practices for websites
●IT/Database management: work/research to help CDF enhance and streamline organizational systems and develop database
●Nonprofit Management: board meeting attendance and minutes, etc
●Research in support of programs and initiatives as assigned; could include individual artists, organizations, issue areas, policy, media coverage, studies, styles, topics, etc.
●General office assistance as needed

DETAILS

Time commitment: 5-10 hours/ week total, including one consistent 3-4 hour work session per week

Location: Chicago Dancemakers Forum office (60611) and from home as necessary. Event and meeting locations vary.

The Chicago Dancemakers Forum Internship Program offers benefits that include participation in public Chicago Dancemakers Forum events, mentorship from staff and the experience of working within a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting local artists. Interns will have access to feedback on a regular basis and may receive a letter of evaluation or reference at the end of their internship. Some interns are provided small stipends, depending on circumstances.

Although CDF Intern responsibilities and assignments are tailored to an individual’s goals and capacities, there are a few requirements.
●Solid understanding of CDF’s mission and core beliefs
●Commit to one consistent, 3-4 hour work session per week at the CDF office
●Attend one CDF event or meeting per month

Qualifications
●Ability to work efficiently and creatively
●Track record of following-through on tasks and commitments
●Self-direction as well as a strong capacity to collaborate with others
●Excellent oral and written communication skills
●Forward-thinking and curious. Comfortable formulating and asking questions
●Functional understanding of Microsoft Word, Pages, DropBox, Excel and potential willingness to grow toward mastery of Mail Merge, Constant Contact, Smartsheet and website management
●Proficiency in video editing and graphic tools (highly desired, but not required)
●Ability to prioritize and meet hard deadlines●Enthusiastic and mature demeanor and a good sense of humor
